College Football Week 6 Preview

This week Penn State plays the unranked Northwestern Wildcats.  Saquon Barkley is coming off of an exciting week against the Hoosiers last week, and in most people's opinion, is the number one Heisman candidate.  I am excited to see if he can keep this up for this week and even the remainder of the season.  Trace McSorley is also having a fantastic season too with 1352 passing yards and 12 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions.  Trace should have a great week due to the weak pass defense of the Wildcats.  The Wildcats' defense allows 239.3 passing yards per game.  I expect Trace to have yet another 300+ yard performance in the passing game.  Saquon should have at least one hundred yards on the ground and perhaps even receiving as well.  I am also excited to see if DaeSean Hamilton has another good game.  He had a great week last night so I am anxious to see if he can keep it up or if is just a one game thing against a poor team.  Safety Marcus Allen for the Nittany Lions has to have a big game to stop the somewhat strong passing attack of the Wildcats.  The Wildcats' QB has had 1061 yards so he may be hard to stop.  I expect the Nittany Lions to pull out the W with a final of 42-10.  Today is a tough day for Penn State fans as number 1 overall recruited quarterback, Justin Fields, who committed to Penn State then decommitted, committed to Georgia.

This week Notre Dame plays an unranked North Carolina Tar Heels.  The Fighting Irish had a great win last week against the RedHawks.  Notre Dame has surprised me this year.  Besides the tough one point loss to Georgia, we have blown out each of our opponents this year.  Brandon Wimbush has looked fine throwing the ball and has looked great on the ground.  He has 783 passing yards and 402 rushing yards with 14 total touchdowns and 2 interceptions.  However, the two surprises this season have been running back Josh Adams and rover Drue Tranquill.  Josh Adams has more rushing yards than Heisman candidate Saquon Barkley.  Adams has 658 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns.  Drue Tranquill has played phenomenally this season.  He has made countless plays and is just performing as a great leader on the defense.  I expect the Irish to beat the Tar Heels 36-17.

The College Gameday game this week features #8 TCU vs #23 West Virginia.  This will be a game with a lot of scoring.  There will also be a lot of passing plays because this game will be about the two quarterbacks.  West Virginia's junior quarterback Will Grier has had 1374 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  TCU's senior quarterback who transferred from Texas A&M is having a good season as well with 965 yards and 9 touchdowns with 3 interceptions.  This will be a high scoring game with each team scoring over 40 points.  However, I have TCU winning 48-42.  If the Mountaineers win, though, Will Grier will be the new Luke Falk and become a Heisman candidate.

Heisman Watch:

  1. Saquon Barkley - Penn State Nittany Lions
  2. Kelly Bryant - Clemson Tigers
  3. Luke Falk - Washington State Cougars

Dark Horse Heisman Candidates:
  1. Kenny Hill - TCU Horned Frogs
  2. Will Grier - West Virginia Mountaineers
